Philately is the collection and study of Postage stamps. It also entails the collection, appreciation and research activities on stamps and other related philatelic products. The hobby of collecting Stamps includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloguing, displaying, storing, and maintaining the stamps or related products on thematic areas. Stamp collection as a hobby has lot of educational benefits as it teaches a lot about the socio economic political reality of the period in which the stamp is issued or the theme on which it is issued. Maintaining a collection can be a relaxing activity that counteracts the stress of life, while providing a purposeful pursuit which prevents boredom. The hobby leads to social connect between people with similar interests and the development of new friendships. My Stamp – Personalized Postage Stamp

My Stamp is the brand name for personalized sheets of Postage Stamps of India Post.  The personalization is achieved by printing a thumb nail image of the customer's photograph and logos of institutions, or images of artwork, heritage buildings, famous tourist places, historical cities, wildlife, other animals and birds etc., on a selected  template sheet having Postage Stamps. ‘My Stamp’ was first introduced in India during the World Philatelic Exhibition, ‘INDIPEX-2011’.  This scheme is available in selected Philatelic Bureaux and counters/ Important Post offices/Post Offices situated at tourist places. ​

National Philatelic Museum

The National Philatelic Museum is being maintained on ground floor of the Dak Bhawan. Besides commemorative postage stamps issued since 1947, thematic stamps and other philatelic products are on display. The museum is equipped with audio-visual facility and a small amphitheater to interact with visitors’ groups such as school children. There is also a souvenir shop inside the museum. The museum is operational during Monday to Friday from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. The National Philatelic Museum attempts to showcase the great Indian panorama as presented through postage stamps. It is located on the ground floor of Dak Bhawan since 2011.It is easily accessible to public by Delhi Metro. It is next to Patel Chowk Metro Station which is also one of the stops of Delhi Tourism’s Hop On Hop Off sight-seeing bus service. Nearest bus stand of DTC is the Akashvani Bus stop. Philatelic Bureau, A Philatelic Counter and An Authorized Office

Philatelic Bureaux function in 68 Head Post Offices at Circle Head Offices or in major district towns. There are 68 Philatelic Bureaux and 1111 Philatelic Counters, which includes all the Head Post Offices or Mukhya Dak Ghars of the country. Philately is gaining ground as a hobby among all age groups. -They carry out sale of philatelic items to individuals, dependent counters and authorized Post offices. -Philatelic Deposit Accounts can be opened at these Bureaus. Philatelic counters supply all philatelic items but are not authorized to issue the Special Cancellation that accompanies each commemorative stamp. -They provide a standard "First Day of Issue" cancellation on first day cover.
